ENL endeavours to be a responsible corporate citizen. For us, every business initiative is also an opportunity to contribute towards making Mauritius a better place to live, both for present and future generations.
In addition to practising this philosophy, we have also allocated dedicated resources to a specific corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. ENL Foundation is the group's special purpose vehicle to implement this plan.
"We believe that our success also depends on our ability to make a difference for the benefit of our fellow citizens. It is in this spirit that we have set up ENL Foundation." says Hector Espitalier-Noël, the ENL Group Chief Executive Officer.
ENL Foundation, a not-for-profit private entity, was accredited by the National Empowerment Foundation (NEF) in March 2010. Its main responsibilities consist of financing, implementing and managing the group's social initiatives which naturally privilege communities hosting ENL business units.
ENL Foundation is funded by the mandatory CSR contributions made by ENL's subsidiaries and affiliates as well as a number of unrelated private companies. The funds thus received are expended in support of a number of projects aimed at driving positive change in the Foundation's current areas of focus, namely:
- Welfare of children from vulnerable groups
- Eradication of absolute poverty
- Youth development
- Environment
In addition to implementing the group's CSR programme, ENL Foundation provides financial support to a number of projects at national level run by approved NGOs. It also assists ENL Property with the execution of the La Balise Marina IRS Social Development Plan in Black River.
For financial year 2011-12, ENL Foundation's budget stood at Rs 9.5 million. This amount was allocated as follows:
- Eradication of absolute poverty: 35%
- Welfare of children from vulnerable groups: 22%
- Project implementation: 13%
- Environment: 4%
- Support to NGOs and corporate partners: 14%
- Administrative costs: 12%
To date, more than 30 accredited NGOs have benefited from financial support provided by ENL Foundation.
