Protecting the coastal ecosystem
Since 2013, Rogers Foundation is responding to the increasing threats to the Mauritian coastal ecosystem by running projects aimed at influencing, educating, and changing citizens’ behaviour.
We focus on raising awareness around the protection of the coastal resources of Mauritius. A number of projects are conducted in partnership with Reef Conservation Mauritius, namely,
- Bis lamer, a classroom on wheels fitted with interactive tools and laboratory equipment.
- Eco-school project focusing on environmental education of school children.
- Sea-turtle preservation network, an educational booklet, was produced and released to sensitise school children and coastal inhabitants on the need to protect endangered sea turtles.
- Bel Ombre pedia, a comprehensive compilation of scientific and pedagogical information about fauna and flora species around the region of Bel Ombre gathered by biologists and zoologists and which will be available online and based on the Wikipedia model.
